We Are The Shield

About & Governance

A community organisation, properly run.

We are a Community Interest Company working towards charitable status.

Purpose

Why we exist

We exist to support safer, more connected communities. Our volunteers offer a calm presence, help make sure safeguarding concerns reach the right people, and support approved community activities.

Our community benefit is practical: a point of contact for residents, extra care around people who may be at risk, and organised help when it is asked for.

Values

What guides us

Care
We treat everyone with dignity and warmth.
Inclusion
Our work is for every community, across backgrounds, ethnicities, faiths and identities.
Responsibility
We work within our role and pass concerns to those with the power to act.
Accountability
We are open about our standards and act when they are not met.

Our Board

Meet the Board

The Board oversees our activities and adherence to the Code of Conduct.

Oversight and accountability

Every member agrees to our Code of Conduct and member agreement (MOU). Concerns about a member’s behaviour are recorded and looked into under the relevant procedure.

The member agreement allows us to suspend a member while an investigation takes place, and to remove members where necessary. Where an investigation finds a problem, we take corrective action and learn from it.

Safeguarding leadership

Our Designated Safeguarding Lead holds a Level 5 safeguarding qualification and oversees how safeguarding concerns are handled.

Anyone can raise a concern, including about our members or leadership. Raise a concern.

Our status and ambition

We are a Community Interest Company working towards charitable status. We will update this page if our status changes.

Funding

We are funded through approved membership, donation, fundraising and sponsorship arrangements. Reports will be published on our Impact page as they are approved.
